Millbrae Community Conversation

5 PM–6:30 PM, Caroline Shea Center, our school district hosts a gathering with Chief Allen of Millbrae Police Bureau, Lieutenant Trickett of Investigations Bureau, representatives from San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, and representatives from San Mateo County Health Foundation’s Keller Center.
Due to the conversation tonight, the school district requests only adults attend.

If you purchased your yearbook before April 16, your yearbook will be distributed at school. Otherwise, your yearbook will be shipped to your home.
Leadership has put together an “Other Sports” page for our yearbook. If your child plays a sport outside of Taylor please add photos of your child playing that sport for the yearbook.

Mills Open House for Taylor 8th Graders
Date: March 9, 2023
5:30 PM–6:30 PM, Mills High School warmly welcomes all Taylor 8th graders and their parents to attend the Incoming 9th Grade Orientation in the Mills Auditorium. You will meet Mills administration and learn all about Mills academics, athletics, extracurricular activities, and other programs.
Join us for Open House immediately afterwards from 6:30 PM–8 PM where you can visit classrooms, talk to teachers and see displayed works and projects from current students. During the open house, there is no bell schedule for this event. Classrooms will be open for informal class visits for the duration of the evening.
San Mateo S.T.E.M. Fair

Congratulations to:
Aliya Fund & McKayla Ramosa won First Place in the 7th Grade Biological Systems category. Their submission answered the question, “Does dog saliva reduce growth of a particular type of bacteria from common areas?” They will move on to California State Fair in Los Angeles and qualify for National Middle School S.T.E.M. Fair in Washington, DC.
Samuel Hwang won Second Place in the 7th Grade Material Science category. His submission answered the question, “Which moisturizer works best to keep skin moist?”

Associated Student Body Movie Night Fundraiser

Second Parent Meeting about Sojourn Trip

Sojourn Project gives 8th graders the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C., Gettysburg, and Mt. Vernon on March 11–17, 2023. The 8th grade trip occurs March 11–17, 2023 and costs $3,700 ($1,000 deposit). Financial aid is available. The cost pays for airfare and bus transportation, meals and lodging, admission to museums and historical sites, entertainment, a nurse, chaperones, and the educators who teach the lessons.

Math, Puzzle, and Treat Challenge

Contest to Get a Class Treat

Three advisory classrooms, one for each grade level, with the most number of donations (not the amount) will get a treat.
Your $25 or higher donation helps get your student’s advisory classroom closer to getting the treat and funds projects to enrich student learning. Donate $250 or higher and get a free gift while supplies last.
If you have more than one Taylor student, your donation will be divided between them.
Donations between August 1 and October 7 qualify towards the contest.

Parent Meeting about Outdoor Education

Join the 7 PM parent meeting on Zoom to answer questions not found in the information and registration forms. Apply for financial aid.
Your 6th grader‘s first-period teacher handed out information and registration forms last week. This is the final school year 6th graders have the option of attending Outdoor Education. YMCA Camp Jones Gulch will host them on October 10–14. 225 spots available for 250 students so registration is first come, first served.
Registration deadline is September 30th.

Back-to-School Night

5:40 PM–7 PM We will gather at the outdoor amphitheater for our welcome and introduction. Class presentations will begin on an abbreviated schedule beginning at 6 PM and going until 7 PM. We are hoping that parents can learn about their child’s teachers and classes. While we do not have time for this to be a conference, it is very helpful to put a name with a face and learn about the student’s schedules.
