Preparing for High School

Mills High School and five other high schools in San Mateo county belong to San Mateo Union High School District (SMUHSD). Millbrae’s elementary schools and Taylor Middle School belong to Millbrae Elementary School District (MESD). MESD doesn’t register your student for high school so you are responsible for registration.

2025 Roadmap to High School

Incoming 9th graders will take these steps before their first day of high school on August 13:

1. Find the high school assigned to your home address.

2. Attend your future high school’s information night in October 2024 and learn about high school life:

   • Aragon: October 29 at 6:30 PM

   • Burlingame: October 16 at 6:30 PM

   • Capuchino: October 23 at 6 PM

   • Hillsdale: October 17 at 6:30 PM

   • Mills: October 30 at 6:30 PM (updated link to show flyer)

   • San Mateo: October 9 or 17 at 6:30 PM & October 30 at 6:30 PM

3. Enroll during the priority enrollment period between now and February 7:

   • If you need help:

     • Attend an enrollment workshop at SMUHSD office (650 N. Delaware St. in San Mateo) on January 23rd, 4 PM–7 PM or January 29th, 4 PM–7 PM

     • Email Taylor’s Ms. Evans, Taylor’s Ms. Thomas, or enrollment@smuhsd.org

     • Call 650-558-2251 to get help over the phone or schedule an appointment for in-person help at SMUHSD office (650 N. Delaware St. in San Mateo).
       Hours of operation (closed January 28):
       Monday–Thursday, 8:30 AM–3:30 PM
       Friday, 9 AM–12 PM

   • Printed summary of the registration process

   • Give proof of residency and other documents (English, Español, 中文). Taylor 8th graders do not need to provide their transcripts.

   • definition of some phrases:
     intradistrict transfer: transfer a student from one SMUHSD high school to another SMUHSD high school
     sibling transfer: only applies to a sibling who is transferring from one SMUHSD high school to another SMUHSD high school

4. Attend an orientation/open house in 2025 for your selected high school.

   • Aragon

   • Burlingame

   • Mills

   • San Mateo

5. Pick their courses and elective.

   • Aragon (summary of courses, AVID elective)

   • Burlingame (summary of courses, AVID elective)

   • Capuchino (summary of courses)

   • Hillsdale (summary of courses)

   • Mills (summary of courses)

   • San Mateo (summary of courses)

6. Optionally participate in a school sport:

   • have your physician fill out this health examination form

   • get registered for your school’s SportsNet
